PATEK PHILIPPE TOPS THE SALE

At the Saffron Art Fine Jewels & Watches Sale, an 18K Patek Philippe gold women's wristwatch, with a rectangular case set with full-cut diamonds and calibrated sapphires, went under the hammer for INR 28.40 lakh. With 7-jewels quartz movement, Dauphine style hands, the watch was the top lot of the sale.

NEW RECORD SET FOR ADRIAN GHENIE

The highlight of Christie’s Frieze Week Auction in London was the Post-War and Contemporary Art Evening auction which achieved a total of over GBP 34 million. The night was led by 39-year-old Romanian artist Adrian Ghenie’s Nickelodeon which went under the hammer for GBP 7.1 million, four times its pre-sale estimate of GBP 1-1.5 million, setting a world record for the artist. The work was created in 2008 by the artist who is known as the next Francis Bacon of our times.

JOEY THE WAR HORSE SELLS AT AUCTION

An auction of puppets from the hit play War Horse, including full-size protagonist ‘Joey’ fetched over GBP 70,000 at a charity auction at Bonham’s in London. The original breathtaking puppet sold for GBP 35,000 alone. The puppets, which are central to the success of the play, were designed and made in South Africa by Adrian Kohler and Basil Jones of Handspring Puppet Company. Made out of cane, leather, aluminium and Tyvek, the puppets were created after months of hard work.
